Our journey began sadly with the death of Superintendent Fred V. Morrone and his fellow officers on September 11, 2001.  The following year at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Memorial, we gathered to officially say goodbye to our friend and colleague.  A decision was made to begin the path of remembering Fred and the officers. 

 

At the memorial, along with Fred’s wife Linda, it was agreed to establish the Morrone Memorial Education fund focusing on global counter terrorism.  Fred was an innovator and forward thinker.  Morrone was the executive vice president of the INTERPORTPOLICE – International Association of Airport and Seaport Police and was in the midst of becoming the President of the Board.

 

This program expanded with the Fred V. Morrone 9/11 Memorial Award in 2007 and the 9/11 Medal program in 2012.  We now move forward and complete the circle by establishing the Morrone 9/11 Center for Counterterrorism and Security as a non-profit educational program and seeking our charitable status.

 

Although this effort started because of America's 9/11, Fred Morrone was involved in the organization because he foresaw the destruction of global terrorist activity long before most and knew no country was exempt. Therefore, we encompass all the 9/11s of the world as a joint effort among Nations. 

 

We look toward building new efforts and partnership with governments, public authorities and private entities to further the education to inform governments, authorities and the public, and to continue the recognition of officers and officials who demonstrate valor, and distinguished work in fighting terrorist activities.
